About Me

Hello and thanks for stopping by!

My name is Kevin Bush (assuming you missed the name at the top of the page or mistyped the url – my name is the domain). I’ve been doing the internet thing since about 1993 and over the last 9+ months, decided to take up fish keeping. It occurred to me that everyone has a blog now days… even me. And while I’ve done the blog thing before, it does get tiring. So, I decided to do something different. I wanted to make this site about my experiences in fish keeping and the world of aquaria, yes… but I also wanted to turn my experiences into lessons. That’s why I’ve taken it upon myself to write articles and how-tos (with many more to come) on what works and what doesn’t in this hobby, in a way that can benefit the average fish keeper/internet browser (possibly you). I’m always thinking of new things to add, so I may have some planting guides with profiles, in addition to breeding guides for fish/invertebrates.

It’s occurred to me, more recently, that I’ve missed my calling in the realm of Marine Biology. Most people might cock a head to the term “beneficial bacteria,” but it absolutely amazes me. The balance in the fish tank makes me wonder about the many other things that most people are blind to in the ocean, lakes, rivers and seas. This curiosity and my yearning for more knowledge is leading me down a different path. I thought about going back to school to get a Doctorate in Marine Biology, but honestly… that’s a lot of money which would inevitably be wasted, and I’d end up paying back bills for the next 30 years. SO… I’m taking a different route down the same path.

I’ve recently gotten into snail breeding. I’m attempting Zebra Nerite snails and Tylomelania zemis Orange Poso Rabbit snails. I’ve already started the Nerites, but awaiting warmer weather to get some Rabbits shipped to me – probably in the next month. I’m documenting my progress elsewhere, but I’ll certainly post my findings about the dos/don’ts in snail breeding here. It should be fun and quite the learning experience. If all goes well, the plan is to extend my horizons to include other invertebrates and eventually fish. Of course, this will have to wait until we move into a bigger house, where I can have a dedicated aquarium room. Anyway, that’s the plan for now. Once I get this going and become successful in doing so, I plan on selling some of the offspring, so I can keep this hobby going. =]

I hope that I have good news in the future to share with you, but as I’ve learned from my own life experiences, is that life happens and you never do really know what to expect. Either way, here’s to the journey of finding out when we do!

Carpe diem!
